Mechanically polished concrete
True mechanical polishing, not a coating — the slab is ground back and refined from 400 up to a 3000 grit mirror finish, then chemically hardened and stain-protected. Salt-and-pepper, part stone or full stone exposure.

Concrete grinding & polishing specialists
A small, family-owned South Australian business doing one thing properly — mechanically polished concrete for homes, alfrescos, garages and commercial floors. Stylish, timeless, and built to hold its shine year after year.
What we do
From a mirror-polished living area to a non-slip pool surround or a stubborn floor full of old tile glue — it is all concrete, and it is all we do.
True mechanical polishing, not a coating — the slab is ground back and refined from 400 up to a 3000 grit mirror finish, then chemically hardened and stain-protected. Salt-and-pepper, part stone or full stone exposure.
Honed to around 200 grit for a soft sheen with a genuinely non-slip surface. Every floor we lay meets council slip co-efficient ratings — the specialty the business was built on.
A cost-effective alternative where a topical finish suits the job better: the slab is precision ground to the exposure you want, then sealed. Ideal for garages, sheds and budget-conscious builds.
Humps, bumps, falls and out-of-level slabs corrected ready for tile, timber or polish. Domestic and commercial, with 24/7 availability so trades are not held up.
Old vinyl, carpet and tile adhesive removed cleanly with dust-extracted grinding — the slab left ready for its new floor covering.
Slip-resistant, coloured and decorative coating systems for porches, steps, garages and commercial floors where a polish is not the right answer.
Why concrete
Stylish and timeless, concrete flooring is an excellent option for your project. Refined Floors delivers elegant, finest-quality finishes for any residential build — a range of colours, textures and finishes that will fit any home's look and feel.

Concrete absorbs heat during the day and releases it when the temperature drops at night, helping keep your home comfortable and reducing heating and cooling costs.
We are specialists in residential concrete flooring. A well-planned floor gives excellent, long-lasting durability.
Concrete flooring eliminates the health and allergy problems that come with carpet throughout the home.
A wide range of finishes, from urban and industrial to classically elegant — there is a concrete finish to suit any home.
Often one of the most cost-effective flooring solutions, with an enduring and stylish finish.
Save resources — and money — by not adding another layer of carpet or timber over the slab you already have.
How it works
Polished concrete is a staged process that runs alongside the build. Getting the timing right is what separates a floor that looks good on handover day from one that still looks good in ten years.
Call or send through the details of your job. We will talk you through the finishes that suit the slab, the room and the budget, and quote it properly.
On a new slab the first grind starts 5–14 days after the pour, before any other construction work begins on it.
We return after plastering and before skirting, paint and joinery go in, so the finished floor is not damaged by following trades.
Progressively finer diamonds take the floor to its final grit, then the hardening and stain-protection system is applied.

Why Refined Floors
If you are tired of bad communication with tradespeople, mess left behind and all the other headaches, get in touch. We pride ourselves on being experts as well as a client-oriented, customer-first business.
We are fully self-sufficient, with a 3-phase generator set up in the back of the truck, so we can service anywhere, anytime — 24/7 for floor levelling and glue removal across both the domestic and commercial sectors.
Common questions
Think of polishing concrete as refining the concrete surface with a grinding and polishing action to give a hard, dense floor with thermal gains — stain resistant, very easily cleaned and long lasting. A stain-guard protection system is applied, similar to the way polish works on a car's paint. Our systems are fully waterproof, which means no staining from red wine and the like.
You start with coarse blades attached to a grinder weighing 400 kg or more. Smaller grinders will work, but in some cases they will not produce stone if the concrete is too hard. Layers are taken away a little at a time to reach the chosen stone content — salt and pepper (fines only), part stone or full stone.
Once that is established and every imperfection is fixed, the polishing process begins with progressively finer diamonds, from 400 up to a 3000 grit finish. Chemicals and concrete protection systems are then added to change the chemical structure of the concrete, giving hardness and partial or full stain protection.
No — definitely not. Good machinery, sound technique and a wealth of experience are the keys to an unbeatable high-end finish. If you want your floor to carry its shine year after year, it is important that steps are not skipped in the polishing process.
Yes. Modern polishing chemicals provide waterproofing and stain control against oils and similar spills. Every system is different and offers a different level of protection. These systems soak into the matrix of the concrete and form micro-umbrellas that stop liquids getting in.
